If you're not even aware of it yourself, but others think, "He has a certain allure," that's pretty cool, isn't it? "If that's the case," says Sasaki-san, the designer of Grunk, as he deliberately picks up a certain item.

"I personally feel that shirts are an item with allure. Band collars and pullovers are good, but it's really about the collared, front-opening shirt. And even if it's summer, I basically choose long sleeves, not short sleeves. My way of wearing a shirt is to loosely button it up and have the cuffs a bit untidy. Perhaps because of that, since the brand's inception, I've been continuously making what you might call a somewhat unique shirt, not a well-behaved one."

The fabric is intentionally given a generous amount, and due to the puckering from cotton thread stitching, natural wrinkles appear here and there.

There it was, a garment unbound by conventional wisdom.

"I intend to create clothes that become cooler the more you wear them for all our items, so please try this one on once and spend a few years with it. It will definitely develop a nice character. Rolled-up sleeves, a casual collar, some nice wrinkles. I believe you'll be able to hint at a casual, not at all vulgar, 'subtle' adult allure that isn't ostentatious."

And Sasaki-san continues to ponder over clothing design today.

He says, "I'd be happy if I could continue to make clothes that meet people's expectations," but in the end, he will probably continue to selfishly create what he wants to wear and make.
